LUCKY6S valve supplier specializes in Bi-Directional Knife Gate Valves and has manufactured the world’s greatest Severe Service Knife Gate Valves. Our Valves are made with premium materials appropriate for mining, oil sands, chemical, and power sectors, and are designed to endure the most severe, abrasive, and corrosive applications.

Knife Gates valves are available in a number of different types, including conventional, through-gate, lined, push-through, and guided shear gates.
Knife gate valves are among our many fluid handling items, and they get their name from their amazing ability to cut through thicker, heavier liquids and gases. Knife gate valves were originally meant to cut through the stringy pulp created during papermaking processes, but they are now widely utilized in industries such as petroleum, wastewater treatment, mining, and power production. Knife gate valves come in a variety of sizes and can be used to cut through anything from oil and grease to slurry and varnish.

Knife Gate Valves are ideal for high-density slurry lines in the mining, steel, power, chemical, and paper industries because they can endure high temperatures and abrasive slurries. We manufacture uni-directional and bidirectional knife gate valves in a variety of models and sizes, using high-grade CI/WCB/SS304 and SS316 knife gate valves casting to fit any application.

Our Knife Gate valve performs well in a wide range of demanding applications, including corrosive and abrasive environments, as well as crucial factors such as operational load.

To ensure a long and maintenance-free life, design and construction factors such as ease of operation, service condition, and so on are taken into account. The knife gate valve is easy to operate and does not require any maintenance. They are utilized to stop and control the flow of abrasive slurries and have a longer life.

What is a knife gate valve?

Knife gate valves are designed mainly for on-off and isolation services in systems with high content of suspended solids.
Knife gate valves are particularly useful when dealing with slurry, viscous, corrosive, or abrasive fluids. The knife gate valves have a minimized pressure drop in the fully open position, they are easy to actuate, they have a relatively low weight, and are cost effective.

Knife gate valves, which often have a sharpened blade to cut through heavy liquids, are designed to work in some of the hardest settings.

They’re particularly useful in wastewater applications where corrosion is a major concern. So, in addition to the valve design optimized for slurry media, having a knife made of acid-proof stainless steel is advantageous since it is less prone to corrosion damage and so requires less frequent maintenance or even replacement.

Knife gate valves should only be used for applications that require a completely open or completely closed position, and should not be used to regulate flow unless they are specifically intended for that purpose. A vibration occurs whenever fluid is pressed against a partially closed gate, progressively eroding the disc and seat. Furthermore, the knife gate valves are designed to open and close slowly to protect against the effects of the water hammers.

The knife gate valve frequently includes a sharpened disc to better cut through slurry/viscous material, which is one of the differences between the gate and knife gate valves. In addition, compared to a gate valve, which is dimensionally wider, the knife gate valve has a short face-to-face length. As a result, as compared to a gate valve, a knife gate valve is much lighter. These are the primary differences, as well as two of the knife gate valve’s most significant advantages.

Knife gate valves are used in wastewater treatment plants, chemical plants, mining, cement plants, and a variety of other industrial applications, whereas gate valves are used in drinking water mains, distribution networks, and pump stations.

Knife Gate Valve Design

Knife gate valves are made of a wide range of materials. Common materials include cast carbon steel, cast iron, ductile iron, gunmetal, nickel, alloy steels, stainless steel, and forged steels. The fluid service and design temperature are the most important factors in determining the material used in gate valves.

Carbon steel knife gate valves are a tough, tensile-strengthening material with a high impact value. For high temperature/pressure activities, it is often employed in industrial plants.

Stainless steel knife gate valves have greater corrosion resistance, heat resistance, low-temperature resistance, and mechanical strength despite their high cost.

Lined valves are thermally and chemically stable, as well as having superior mechanical qualities. Because of its better workability, fine lining can be applied to valve wet sections without worry of pinholes. Because it is colorless and does not require any chemicals or pigments, it is also recommended for food preparation.

A threaded valve stem connects the actuator (manual or motor) to the gate to control knife gate valves. Depending on whether end of the stem is threaded, they are classified as rising or non-rising stems.
As the valve is operated, rising stems are attached to the gate and rise and lower concurrently, providing a visible indicator of the valve’s location. To elevate or lower the threaded stem, the nut-shaped actuator revolves around it.
The actuator is attached to and rotates with the non-rising stem valves, which are threaded at the gate end. Because the gate’s motion is hidden within the valve, it’s common to see a pointer attached to the upper end of the stem to show where the valve is. Underground or in situations where vertical space is limited, non-rising stems are used.

The end connection of Knife Gate Valves is generally determined by the requirement and compatibility of the valve, with wafer type and lug type knife gate valves being used with less expensive valves, flanged type end being the most frequent of all types, and a gasket being used for sealing.
